Catherine grew up in the Cotswolds, England, gaining a First Class Honours degree in Fashion and textiles. She designed for Marks and Spencer before migrating to Melbourne and working in the fashion industry. Diverting to embroidery design, teaching came naturally. Her projects have been published in several embroidery magazines, including a project she designed for the Heart Foundation’s embroidery book. Her designs show a sophisticated appreciation of colour and texture. She was Artist in Residence for the 2008 Craft and Quilt Show and Touring Tutor in Residence for the New Zealand Embroiderers Guild in 2009. Catherine has tutored for over 25 years and has taught classes on Needlework Cruises since 2014 and hosted and taught on needlework tours in Britain and France .www.catherinehowellembroidery.com

Bev Tully

For over twenty-five years I have been teaching embroidery; guiding students in their needle work skills, developing their design concepts and refining their sense of hues and colours. The range of the students’ skill levels has varied from beginner to accomplished and the scope of their requirements is always a surprise. I have learnt that teaching is a two-way gift. My art skills that are the basis of my embroidery have evolved with the journey. My website showcases the range, diversity and success of these partnerships.www.bevtullyembroidery.com

Sewing and crafting has been a passion of mine for over 30 years. All areas of textile art interest me, but I now specialise in free-machine embroidery, mixed media surface design, Procion MX dyeing and natural plant dyeing. I love to create fluid, organic designs which form individual motifs, or repeated patterns in my work and I often dye my own ground fabrics and embellish them with my hand-dyed threads to give them a completely exclusive and distinctive quality. My dyeing and mark-making practices are constantly evolving and I never get bored or tire of experimenting to achieve new finishes and textures. I conduct one and two-day textile workshops for small groups at my home studio in Red Hill (5 mins from Mainly Sewing), details of which can be found on my Workshops page.I am very happy to offer tailored workshops for small groups. Please contact me for more details if you would like to arrange a workshop during a stay at Mainly Sewing. Dianne Kinsey - Certified Quiltworx Instructor

After being introduced to patchwork in 2008 I took an interest in the beautiful quilts being pieced by hand and machine. I realized immediately that patchwork was for me; so I set out on the road of discovery making quilts for my home, family and friends and I haven’t looked back.Early in 2013 I heard about Judy Niemeyer and her paper foundation techniques; I was intrigued and so I took up the challenge to make my first Quiltworx technique of the month; I was captivated and so the Quiltworx passion began.I have since attended the dedicated workshops in Melbourne to complete all the technique of the month quilts as they were released over the years: Mariner’s Compass, Paradise in Blooms and Vintage Rose. After making many other Quiltworx patterns, my transition to teaching these patterns and techniques was inevitable. I love these patterns exacting techniques and the way acute angles are achieved with absolute precision every time. My portfolio of Quiltworx projects is continually growing and I never tire of making them!As the Approved Quiltworx Certified Instructor for Victoria I am available to teach classes during your retreat at Mainly Sewing.
